Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) affects women when they are pregnant. Recent statistics suggest that approximately one in seven pregnant women are affected.
This occurs in women who did not have diabetes before pregnancy and develop an insulin resistance during pregnancy. The reason for this resistance is because hormones block the mother’s insulin. GDM does not always show symptoms in pregnant women.
It is diagnosed with a standard test in the second trimester. It can be managed, but please do not ignore gestational diabetes. Most women deliver healthy babies with a gestational diagnosis. However, it should be taken seriously as unmanaged diabetes during pregnancy can result in complications for both mother and baby.
DiapointMe was founded by Pamela Durant, the mother of a child with Type 1 Diabetes. Her son was diagnosed in 2009 at only 20 months old. DiapointMe is the place for people touched by diabetes.
"Despite 15 years of international healthcare management experience at the time, the diagnosis led me through a steep learning curve about diabetes. The realization that I had no idea how to manage diabetes, and there were very few experts to tap into at that time. A few years later, as I began to advocate and present at medical conferences, observed the lack of support available for others to navigate the fear and confusion of this condition."
"In 2016, I decided to leave a successful corporate career to create DiapointME. Our organization provides diabetes education, diabetes services, a diabetes network, advocacy, and products to support people living with diabetes."
"My mission is to change the perception of diabetes, and people living with diabetes. First and foremost, that no one is to blame. Secondly, my programs and products support women who are caring for someone with diabetes, or have diabetes themselves. When women are empowered, true change can happen."
Women-led business fully dedicated to all aspects of the business.
The majority of the people working at DiapointMe have been touched by diabetes.
DiapointMe only works with certified coaches who are experts in their field.
